Job
Postdoctoral Associate (Yale)
Organization
Yale School of Medicine, New Haven, Connecticut, United States
Scientific focus area
Genetics and Genomics, Cell Biology, Chemical Biology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry
The Liu Lab in the Department of Cell Biology at Yale School of Medicine is now seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Associate to join our new research group.
About the position
We study metabolic and redox homeostasis in the endoplasmic reticulum and secretory pathway, with interests spanning ER metabolite transporters, organelle metabolomics, ER redox biology, ER stress responses, and liver and metabolic disease.
This Postdoctoral Associate will develop and lead projects based on their scientific interests, expertise, and fit with the Liu Lab’s research program. Potential research areas include:
- ER redox homeostasis and glutathione metabolism
- ER metabolite transporters and nutrient flux,
- Organelle-specific metabolomics and proteomics
- CRISPR-based genetic screens to identify regulators of ER metabolic homeostasis
- ER stress, ERAD, and secretory pathway regulation
- Liver metabolism and metabolic disease models
- Development of new tools to study ER metabolism in cells and tissues.
This postdoc associate will analyze and interpret experimental and omics datasets, prepare manuscripts and contribute to grant writing, present research findings, and participate in collaborative projects and trainee mentorship as appropriate.
Our lab combines cell biology, biochemistry, CRISPR-based approaches, organelle isolation, metabolomics and proteomics, mouse genetics, and disease models. Postdocs will have freedom to develop independent ideas in a collaborative research environment and will receive individualized mentorship supporting manuscripts, grants and fellowships, conference participation, and career development.
This position has a flexible start date. The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding. Salary will follow Yale University’s Postdoctoral Compensation guidelines and be commensurate with experience.

Qualifications
Prospective applicant should have a PhD, MD/PhD, and/or equivalent doctoral degree by the start date. A strong background in cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, metabolism, physiology, genetics, chemical biology, and/or a related field is required, as is a demonstrated ability to design, execute, analyze, and communicate rigorous research. Scientific curiosity about how small molecules are transported, interconverted, compartmentalized, and regulated within cells is necessary, as are strong written and oral communication skills. The ability to work independently, take ownership of a project, and contribute constructively to a highly interactive lab environment is non-negotiable. Preferably, candidates will have experience with mouse models, CRISPR screening, organelle biology, transporter biology, quantitative proteomics, metabolomics, and/or computational analysis of large-scale datasets.
Candidates should be interested in developing new tools or interdisciplinary approaches to study organelle metabolism and disease mechanisms and motivated to pursue mechanistic research questions while developing toward scientific independence.
Applicants are not expected to have experience in all listed areas. Candidates with complementary expertise and an interest in learning new approaches are encouraged to apply.
