A postdoctoral position is now available under Dr. Jurgen Wess to study the role of G protein-coupled receptor and G protein signaling pathways in type 2 diabetes and obesity.
About the position
Our lab is focused on the generation and analysis of new mouse models expressing novel classes of designer GPCRs in a cell-type specific fashion. This experimental model enables us to activate distinct G protein- or beta-arrestin-dependent signaling pathways in a conditional and reversible fashion, which we use to uncover how GPCR/G protein signaling pathways regulate the function of fat, liver, pancreatic islet cells, K- and L- cells of the GI tract, and certain types of neurons to maintain proper glucose and energy homeostasis. More information about our work can be found under the following publication: 'Wang L, et al. Annu Rev Pharmacol Toxicol 61:421-440, 2021'.
Mice will be analyzed by physiological (metabolic), pharmacological, molecular, and biochemical techniques to ultimately identify the cellular pathways through which GPCRs and GPCR-associated proteins can be targeted for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and obesity. A background in mouse physiology, pharmacology, and metabolism, as well as experience with genetically modified mice, is required for this position. Basic molecular biological and biochemical skills are also essential.
This fellowship's start date is flexible. Salary and benefits are per NIH regulations, commensurate with experience, and include health insurance benefits.
