Post-Doctoral Fellowship

We are seeking a full-time post-doctoral fellow for an opening in the Biotechnology Program, within the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular & Cellular Biology at the Georgetown University School of Medicine. The position is teaching and research in the Biotechnology Program. This position is in the laboratory of Dr. Kyle DiVito and it is open immediately.

About the position

The position will be renewed yearly based upon performance assessment with the principal investigator. The candidate should hold a PhD in biomedical engineering (or related field) and will have a strong background in a combination of the following disciplines/techniques including tissue engineering, microfluidics, molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and mammalian cell & tissue culture. The research project(s) will include developing advanced tissue vascularization models using microfluidic-based approaches for multi-tissue organ modeling. Individuals with experience in biochemistry and mammalian cell culture as well as fluid dynamics, polymer/materials science would be considered particularly ideal candidates. In addition to the research efforts, the candidate will be expected to participate as a teaching assistant for graduate level courses at 50% effort. The candidate will be responsible for basic laboratory research, performing technical aspects of assigned projects, development and optimization of lab protocols and procedures, ordering reagents and keeping track of reagents and lab materials, and helping in the training of other research staff and students in the lab in certain technical skills. The position is multi-fold and seeks to bolster the candidate’s research portfolio as well as provide teaching opportunities in both didactic and experiential learning and thus will provide the candidate with experience for transition into an environment attune to educating. The teaching component of this position is at the graduate level and may also include directing capstone internship projects for M.S. candidates over the Fall, Spring and Summer semesters (limited to 1-2 students per semester). This position requires the individual to be on premises full time.

Qualifications

Preferred Experience: The candidate will hold a PhD in biomedical engineering, biochemistry, or a related field with 0-1 years’ experience. The candidate will have a flexible schedule and be willing to contribute to the Biotechnology Program both through research and education. The ability to communicate effectively on a diverse set of scientific topics is essential. Salary will be commensurate with experience and will follow NIH standards for postdoctoral fellows. Our Program is now entering its 28th year and hosts both domestic and international students from a variety of backgrounds.
