About the position
We are seeking one full-time postdoctoral fellow to join the Race-Related Stressors & Health Disparities Research Lab, which is housed in the Epidemiology and Genetics Branch of the Division of Intramural Research at the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, National Institutes of Health (NIH). The overall mission of the Lab is to reduce/eliminate health disparities by exploring the race-related stressors (e.g., discrimination) contributing to cardiometabolic health disparities over the life course. Specifically, the Lab focuses on: (1) investigating the impact of discrimination/racism on cardiometabolic health (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, cardiovascular morbidity and mortality), (2) exploring biological mechanisms through which discrimination may impact cardiometabolic health, and (3) identifying protective and adaptive factors that could inform interventions among African American, Afro-Caribbean, and Afro-Latino/a populations.
The fellow will assist with study design and implementation, data analysis, and publication of study findings. In addition, the fellow will work on projects using secondary data and will develop their own research questions related to health disparities. The fellow will receive multidisciplinary training and mentorship at NIH. They will also receive support in developing a K-series or similar grant mechanisms during their fellowship. They also can apply for internal funding mechanisms. They will be encouraged to participate in grant writing courses and trainings. Postdoctoral fellows will have the opportunity to participate in journal clubs, in-person speaker series, and webinar series. Travel funds will be available for the fellow to present their research at 2 conferences a year. This is a full-time appointment with year-to-year renewal, up to five years, based on satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

Qualifications
The fellow must have earned a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, ScD) in a public health discipline, social or behavioral science or related field and have no more than five years of relevant research experience since receipt of their most recent doctoral degree. Candidates must have experience or an interest in developing expertise in race-related stressors (e.g., racism, discrimination, segregation) and cardiometabolic health disparities, with a specific focus on Black Diaspora populations. Strong expertise in quantitative methods and computer programming (e.g., R, SPSS, SAS, STATA) is required. Prior experience conducting qualitative research is a plus.
