Job
Postdoctoral Fellow – Neurodevelopmental Biology & 2D hPSC-Derived Neural Models
Organization
Stem Cell Translation Laboratory at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Rockville, Maryland, United States
Scientific focus area
Developmental Biology, Neuroscience, Stem Cell Biology
The Stem Cell Translation Laboratory at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), National Institutes of Health (NIH) is seeking a postdoctoral fellow to develop innovative human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) for studying human neurodevelopmental biology and advancing translational research.
About the position
We are seeking candidates with a strong research background and demonstrated publication record in stem cell or developmental biology.
This position provides an opportunity to work at the interface of stem cell biology, neurodevelopmental biology, clinical and translational science, and human-relevant model development. The fellow will have access to state-of-the-art cell culture, assay development, and cell automation technologies and will work within the highly collaborative research environment at NCATS/NIH. A major goal of the laboratory is to develop and apply next-generation human-relevant NAMs that improve our ability to model human biology and support translational research. Stipend levels are determined according to NIH intramural postdoctoral fellowship guidelines and are based on relevant postdoctoral research experience.

Qualifications
The fellow will be a hands-on experimental scientist who is interested in developing, optimizing, and applying 2D hPSC-derived neural models and functional assays. The position will involve substantial laboratory-based research, including:
- Human pluripotent stem cell culture and differentiation
- Development and optimization of neuronal and glial differentiation protocols
- Functional assay development and validation
- Molecular and cellular characterization of neural cell populations
- Troubleshooting and optimization of technically demanding experimental workflows
- Quantitative data generation, analysis, interpretation, and publication
Applicants should have strong hPSC culture and wet-laboratory experience, together with a solid foundation in molecular and cellular biology and/or developmental biology.
We are particularly interested in scientists who enjoy independently driving experimental projects from assay conception and optimization through data generation, analysis, and publication.
Prior experience with hPSC-derived neural differentiation is desirable but not required.
Experience in areas such as neuronal or glial biology, functional cellular assays, imaging, electrophysiology, transcriptomic or molecular characterization, or related technologies would be advantageous.
