Staff Clinician

The Office of the Clinical Director, Dr. David Goldman, within the NIH National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, is now seeking a highly motivated Physician to fill a Staff Clinician position in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

About the position

The NIAAA Office of the Clinical Director conducts cutting-edge clinical and translational research aimed at understanding the genetic, neurobiological, and behavioral mechanisms underlying alcohol use disorder and related conditions. Our research protocols include inpatient and outpatient studies involving human subjects, with an emphasis on integrating clinical phenotyping, neuroimaging, and genomics to advance precision medicine approaches to addiction. The primary responsibilities of this position will include the clinical evaluation and medical management of research participants with alcohol use disorder and co-occurring conditions, including the participation in the design and implementation of clinical research protocols and the undertaking of collaboration across a multidisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, psychologists, and research staff.

This Staff Clinician will also contribute to protocol development, data interpretation, and dissemination of research findings. Candidates with a strong interest in clinical research and a track record of scholarly activity in addiction medicine or related fields are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

To be eligible for this position, candidates must have an MD or DO degree, be board-certified or board-eligible in Addiction Medicine, Addiction Psychiatry, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, or a related specialty, and be eligible for medical licensure in the United States. Experience in the clinical management of substance use disorders, including alcohol use disorder, is required.

The ideal candidate will have experience in clinical research, familiarity with Good Clinical Practice, and strong communication and teamwork skills. Candidates will be evaluated on their clinical expertise, research experience, scholarly accomplishments, and ability to work collaboratively. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience, in accordance with NIH guidelines.
