Staff Scientist

DCEG is one of the world’s largest cancer epidemiology research groups. OEEB integrates epidemiologic, molecular and genetic data to understand cancer etiology, chemical carcinogenesis and mechanisms of action of known or suspected occupational and environmental carcinogens. Branch investigators are leading studies of the carcinogenic potential of pesticides and other agricultural exposures and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in large cohorts and other populations. These investigations use both targeted and untargeted ‘omic’ molecular epidemiologic analyses such as metabolomics, proteomics, and epigenome-wide DNA methylation to investigate associations with cancer risk and gain insights into the biologic plausibility and potential mechanisms of action through which pesticides, PFAS, and other exposures may influence cancer risk.

The successful candidate will provide support for multiple projects as a Staff Scientist to OEEB investigators conducting research efforts in two molecular epidemiologic substudies within the Agricultural Health Study cohort: the Biomarkers of Exposure and Effect in Agriculture (BEEA) study and the Agricultural Lung Health Study (ALHS).

The candidate will:

• Facilitate data/sample requests;
• Manage biorepositories;
• Maintain and updating analytic files;
• Conducting statistical analyses of both targeted and high-dimensional ‘omic’ data; Facilitate investigations of PFAS and cancer in various cohorts and other population-based studies by managing datasets, creating analytic files, and performing statistical analyses.

Preferred candidates will have:

• A doctoral degree in epidemiology or other related disciplines
• Have experience processing and analyzing large datasets and conducting both classical and targeted and untargeted molecular epidemiologic analyses
• Possess a demonstrated ability to self-educate in current and evolving techniques and resources

The ability to communicate effectively in speech and in writing is highly desirable, as demonstrated by a track record of publications in peer-reviewed literature as part of a research team or collaborative projects.
