AsedaSciences is now looking for experienced scientists in cell culture, lab automation and cytometry to support operations in our new facility in Frederick, MD.
About the position
We develop and conduct cell-based screening services for small molecule toxicity risk assessment, to help scientists design and produce safer chemicals. We perform high-throughput screening using flow cytometry, with integrated Machine Learning and cloud-based data visualization.
This senior scientist will be responsible for fielding an automated, multiparametric flow cytometry screen for measuring the acute cellular stress effect of compounds on human cells. This screen uses a 384 well plate screening format, using an immortalized human cell line, multiple dyes to measure up to 12 cellular stress parameters and running 4 plates per day. This position requires attention to detail, excellent bench skills, the ability to follow strict protocols, and prior experience in the field of cytometry.
While data analysis is automated, the ability to understand flow cytometry and monitor QC is essential. To date, our Company has screened 3,000 chemicals through this screening, all of which are now visualized in our cloud-based 3RnD database. This role will continue to expand our public library and to run customer compounds as needed. Other testing services are being developed, so we have opportunities for diversifying your screening knowledge across different biological methods.

Qualifications
Interested applicants must have a minimum of 5 years bench experience working with automated screens, preferably 384 well-based. They should also have experience working with live cell assays and analysis using cytometric methods, and a history of developing and strictly following SOPs that resulted in reproducible implementation of screening methods. Having a demonstrated ability to work well in a team environment is also required, as this role requires close operational coordination and communication with a cell-culture scientist as a screening partner. A successful history of running automated high-throughput screening methods using liquid handling robots is a plus. Experience with one of more common liquid handlers (Biomek, Hamilton, Tecan etc.) is also welcome. Having the ability to troubleshoot QC failures, identify root cause and implement corrective measures, and a passion for making a difference through the implementation of non-animal methods are a must.
