Staff Scientist

MRI of inflammation - The mission of our research group is to develop novel MRI techniques in pre-clinical animal models that add to the information that can be gained from MRI.

About the position

The Plasticity and Imaging of the Nervous System Section (PINSS) in the intramural research program at NINDS is searching for a Staff Scientist 1 position to lead experiments aimed at developing MRI techniques to image neuroinflammation in pre-clinical animal models.

Qualifications

The candidate will have:

  • A relevant PhD and at least three years postdoctoral experience.
  • Experience developing iron/iron oxide-based contrast for detecting neuroinflammation is required.
  • Experience labeling immune cells as well as experience conjugating antibodies to iron/iron oxide MRI contrast is required.
  • Experience developing rodent models of neuroinflammation such as injection of LPS, high fat diet, viral infection of the brain, and other relevant models are required.
  • Performing MRI at high resolution in rodent models of neuroinflammation that enables detection of single iron oxide labeled cells or single antibody labeled vessels is also required.
  • Experience performing histological verification of MRI results is required.
  • Experience driving scientific initiatives, developing experimental protocols, analyzing quantitative datasets, author manuscripts, and presenting findings at conferences is required.
