The National Institutes of Health's Clinical Center is now seeking a staff scientist with strong leadership credentials, a proven record of interdisciplinary collaborations, and solid scientific credentials to join our mass spectrometry team within the Chemistry Service, Department of Laboratory Medicine, in Bethesda, MD.
About the position
The National Institutes of Health's Clinical Center is the largest hospital in the world completely dedicated to clinical research in which all care is delivered as part of our more than 1600 active clinical research protocols. The mission of the Clinical Center is first and foremost scientific discovery, and as such includes clinical protocols to evaluate rare diseases and clinical trials of novel interventions. More than 90% of the 750 interventional studies are Phase I or Phase II trials.
The Clinical Center's Chemistry Service provides clinical laboratory support for all adult and pediatric inpatients, as well as outpatients, participating in NIH CC's clinical research protocols. Our Service consists of five sections: General Chemistry, Immunoassay, Urine/Stat Lab, Special Chemistry and HPLC/Mass Spectrometry. The Service has a longstanding research program dedicated to new method development, translational research, and numerous opportunities for scientific collaboration linked to NIH Institute-wide initiatives.
Prospective applicants would join the Clinical Chemistry Service current team of approximately 40 staff members, including three doctoral level clinical chemists and two post-doctoral fellows.

Qualifications
Prospective candidates should possess a Ph.D. or an equivalent degree and years of formal post-doctoral training in clinical chemistry. This train could have resulted in American Board of Clinical Chemistry certification/eligibility and/or the completion of a residency in Clinical Pathology and thus certification by the American Board of Pathology.
Individuals must also have experience in clinical chemistry practice, including mass spectrometry experience and a history of interacting with clinicians to effectively use and interpret clinical testing.
Candidates should also provide evidence of scholarship and authorship by way of publications in international peer-reviewed journals.
