About this program
As a Brown-NIH Neuroscience graduate student, you will get the best of both worlds - the world class academic environment of Brown University and the breadth and depth of research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
Students in the Brown-NIH University Graduate Partnerships Program earn their PhD through Brown University. Students spend the first year of the program taking Neuroscience classes at Brown and then perform their dissertation research in a laboratory at NIH while maintaining strong ties to the Brown Neuroscience community. As a Brown-NIH Neuroscience GPP student you will:
- Take courses and rotate with faculty at Brown University.
- Rotate in NIH research groups to identify a dissertation mentor.
- Participate in monthly seminars with the Brown-NIH Neuroscience students in all years.
- Travel to Brown to give seminars and attend retreats with students in Brown University’s Neuroscience program.
Eligibility criteria
Prospective students must be U.S. citizens or U.S. permanent residents and must hold a bachelor’s degree by the matriculation date.
Stipend and other compensation
All Brown NIH graduate students are supported through NIH Intramural Research Training Awards and by Brown University. They receive support for stipend, tuition, and medical insurance throughout their years of training. View the NIH stipend tables here.
