Management Certificate Course

A course to help you work effectively on teams and develop skills to become a better colleague, leader, and manager.

About the series

The OITE Management Certificate Course helps you work effectively on teams and become a better colleague, leader, and manager. It combines the former Workplace Dynamics Series and the Management Short Course into one integrated program that builds your awareness of work, communication, and conflict styles, then puts those skills into practice through case-based management training. Examples are provided throughout that are drawn from research environments.

The program progresses from the individual outwards: first understanding yourself, then how you work with others, then how you navigate conflict, and finally how you bring it all together as a manager.

Participants who complete all five components earn a single certificate of completion.

How to attend

Applications will close at 5 pm on Friday, October 2, 2026.

The course will begin mid-October and continue through December. The program dates can be found below.

Sessions

  1. Introduction to Management

This interactive session will introduce key management concepts and serve as an introduction to the course, including information on how to navigate the online course platform and complete all certificate requirements.

  2. Module 1: Managing Yourself

This session explores themes of self-awareness and self-management, examining the preferences, work, and communication styles that shape your interactions in any research group or workgroup. This foundation gives you a shared vocabulary for understanding your own tendencies and how they influence the way you interact in a team.

    • Wednesday, October 21, 2026 from 1-2 pm ET

*This live session accompanies an asynchronous, self-paced online module.*

  3. Module 2: Managing Teams

Building on the themes of self-awareness from module 1, this module turns to how individuals come together as a team. We examine the stages teams move through as they form and develop, why groups predictably hit friction along the way, and what it takes to move a team toward productive and effective collaboration.

    • Wednesday, October 28, 2026 from 1-2 pm ET

*This live session accompanies an asynchronous, self-paced online module.*

  4. Module 3: Managing Conflict

This session provides an accessible framework for conflict management as well as for giving and receiving personal feedback. You'll learn to recognize different approaches to conflict, understand the tradeoffs of each, and practice strategies to deliberately choose how to engage when tensions arise on a team.

    • Wednesday, November 4, 2026 from 1-2 pm ET

*This live session accompanies an asynchronous, self-paced online module.*

  5. Capstone: Management Intensive

This two-day intensive provides an opportunity to explore management principles through small group discussion and case studies. It acts as a capstone, bringing together the first three modules (self-awareness, team dynamics, and conflict) into realistic management scenarios where you practice leading people through situations managers actually face.
