Resources for your Trainees
- Orientations
- Graduate Student and Postdoc Orientation: Orientations for new postdocs and graduate students are held the first Tuesday of most months from 8:30 - 10:00 am. Check Upcoming Events for the next scheduled orientation.
- Postbac Orientation
- Summer interns coming to the NIH for the first time may want to watch a new YouTube video from the OITE on getting to and around the Bethesda campus.
- OITE has scheduled a workshop entitled "Planning a Successful NIH Summer Internship" for the four Fridays in June from 8:30 to 10:00 am. Check Upcoming Events for the locations. If your trainee misses this trans-NIH orientation, he/she can also view a pre-recorded Orientation Webinar. Summer interns who have no prior research experience should consider attending one of our full-day Science Skills Summer Boot Camps. IMPORTANT NOTES: (1) An intern should attend a summer boot camp OR "Planning a Successful NIH Summer Internship, NOT BOTH. (2) Please make certain your interns also attend your IC Orientation.
- Finally, lots of important summer information is collected on the Summer Intern News page of the OITE Web site.
- Telework Policy for IRTA/CRTA/Visiting Fellow
-
The NIH has a policy to allow for limited telework for intramural trainees (IRTA/CRTA/Visiting Fellows). NOTE: no IRTAs, CRTAs, or Visiting Fellows may be appointed with the understanding that they will be working remotely. More information here.

- When your trainees are "stressed" for personal or professional reasons, you may find it use ful to point them to the OITE resource page for Trainees Under Stress. Links on this page will help them access the Office of the NIH Ombudsman; the Employee Assistance Program; CIVIL, which deals with workplace violence; and various crisis hotlines.
- Make certain your trainees know what opportunities are available to them. Encourage them to sign up for OITE (and social) listservs. Encourage them to visit the OITE Web site often and to create an account on the Web site so that they can register for events with a single click and make appointments with career counselors.
