Assistant Professor of Biology (Whitman College)

The Department of Biology is now seeking applicants with expertise in ecology for a tenure-track position beginning in August 2027 at the rank of assistant professor. Applicants must have a Ph.D. at the start of this position.

This assistant professor will be expected to teach our standard load of five courses. Courses may include ecology lectures and labs, as well as courses in environmental biology and introductory biology, plus time dedicated to mentoring senior students as they prepare their senior theses. Candidate will also be expected to offer research opportunities to interested students as opportunity permits.

This candidate will join a highly-collaborative department known for its support and engagement with our life science majors. The Biology Department provides ample opportunity for faculty to engage in field work, and this candidate will also have the opportunity to work closely with our interdisciplinary Environmental Studies program.

The College further provides a generous pre-tenure sabbatical program and professional development support for both research and teaching. As such, the successful candidate will have a demonstrated potential to sustain an active scholarly research agenda and participation in faculty responsibilities including mentorship and grant writing.

Applicants must hold a PhD in ecology, biology, or a related field and have demonstrated experience working as a researcher and educator.
