Proposal Development Manager (UMD)

The University of Maryland is now seeking a Proposal Development Manager in its Research Development Office to lead the creation and submission of major research proposals.

About the position

This Proposal Development Manager will report directly to UMD leadership and collaborate with researchers and campus stakeholders to coordinate scientific and administrative tasks. This role focuses on aligning proposals with sponsor requirements, engaging external partners, and delivering specialized services to maximize funding success.

Nationally prominent federal agency and foundation opportunities are the catalytic fuel for our Primary Investigators' career advancement and success. As such, this PDM’s duties will include the coordination of Large-scale, multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional research project funding, as well as center-level funding proposals. This proposal development manager will be expected to craft applications to foundation, corporate, and government sponsors with which the University of Maryland desires to create or enhance long-term, strategic research partnerships.

Qualifications

Prospective candidates must hold a bachelor's degree, three years of proposal development experience, and one year of experience in a supervisory role. S strong command of federal funding policies and research regulations is a must.

Preference will be given to applicants with a Ph.D. or graduate work in engineering, applied sciences, and/or a related field, who have a proven track record of managing and writing large collaborative proposals for key agencies like NSF, NIH, DoD, DOE, and NASA.

Additionally, ideal candidates will demonstrate exceptional communication skills, a deep understanding of funding mechanisms, and a talent for building collaborative relationships with principal investigators under tight deadlines.
